Bitter Sugar
2025
Sugar symbolizes sweetness, but was also integral to the colonial trade. The wealth from sugar created the ornate and demonstrative Baroque style. By stacking sugar cubes in a similar way to a Corinthian column common in Baroque architecture, I express the ironic fragility of sugar and expose the bitter history of power behind that sweetness.
